A descriptive account of the history of the Vale of Pickering and its wetland wildlife and heritage, based on the findings of the Vale of Pickering Wetlands Project. The origins of the Vale's wetlands are explained and the influence of people from prehistoric times onwards. The drainage of the Vale, particularly in the 19th and 20th centuries, is discussed in detail, with quotations from some of the older residents. The effects on the wildlife are summarised. Includes a detailed list of references.
